Following our involvement in the development phase on the Midland Mainline upgrade prior to the project being paused, Axial is currently contracted to lead on construction integration for the project. The outline scope consists of track modifications, structures and clearance works, routewide lineside civils, new electrification and power upgrades, signalling, telecoms and SCADA. Axial’s scope is to lead and co-ordinate the construction planning process and outputs from T-12 weeks through to delivery. To support this process we have supplied specialist Integration roles and our AxiPlan toolkit.

The transition required transfer of fleet, IT, TUPE’d staff, supply chain (c90 key suppliers) and delivery plans across depots in Peterborough, Doncaster, Preston, Crewe and Saltley to ensure a seamless transition when the contracts changed hands at midnight on 6th August 2019, with no impact to planned works.

Axial provided project and programme management services throughout the transition period and also developed a bespoke procurement solution to ensure labour and plant orders could continue to be placed.
