In January 2021, the London to Corby Electrification project was successfully commissioned by SPL Powerlines. The £300 million contract covered the electrification of 192km single track including more than 2,300 foundations, 3,240 OLE structures, the installation of 8 substations, a total of approx. 900km of wire (OLE, RSC, fibre, LV/HV) and a total length of steelwork for OLE structures of 38km as well as 350 design submissions.

Axial have supported the project since its inception in 2013 when it formed part of the original Midland Mainline Upgrade programme of works before being paused in 2015 and subsequently restarting later in the same year. Since 2019 we have provided a bespoke package of planning and construction integration services which culminated in the successful commissioning. Axial’s team have now commenced support for SPL during  the planning stage for the next stage of the electrification programme Key Output 1A.
